Role Description
This volunteer role involves making routine website edits and needed updates in reaction to requests from authorized IEEE SMC Society (SMCS) volunteers. The most important quality of the Web Editor is being responsive. The role calls for basic data entry and basic familiarity with website editing, rather than web design or development more typically required of a webmaster. (A 3rd party contractor to SMCS, D2 Creative, is responsible for website architecture, design, and major maintenance or changes, while the Web Editor and some SMCS volunteers perform routine updates to certain web pages.)
Characteristics and duties of this role include:
- responding to website editing and update requests within 48 hours (within 24 hours is preferred)
- posting content or announcements to the website, as needed, upon request from members of the SMCS Board of Governors
- serving as administrator for the SMCS webinar service account (with GoToWebinar) and handling webinar scheduling requests from SMCS TCs, Chapters, and other committees
- supporting the Electronic Communications Subcommittee Chair, as needed, with the monthly posting of content to the slide show feature on the main page of the SMCS website.
