This is sad news for the engineering community. We lost Professor Lotfi Zadeh, the founder of fuzzy logic and soft computing, and one of the giants of control, AI, and systems science theory and engineering.
Professor Zadeh was an active member of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society and mentor to many of us. Until his last days he was actively involved in the Society. He was a frequent keynote speaker and panelist at many Society events, and was the inspiration for the Technical Committee on Soft Computing, the biggest TC in SMC Society. Professor Zadeh was one of the first recipients of the SMC Norbert Wiener Award.
Professor Lotfi Zadeh leaves a legacy of an intellectual titan, a visionary leader, an exceptional scholar, and a man of great humanity.
