Special Sessions

Special Sessions provide a focused platform for discussing emerging, innovative, and specialized topics within the scope of ICHMS 2026. These sessions are intended to complement the regular program by highlighting new research directions, cutting-edge applications, or interdisciplinary themes aligned with the conference focus.

Prospective organizers are invited to download the Special Session Proposal Template and submit the completed proposal to the Special Sessions Chairs by the announced deadline.

Each Special Session should include at least six papers. All submitted papers will undergo the same rigorous peer-review process as regular conference papers. Please note that submission to a proposed Special Session does not guarantee acceptance; papers will be evaluated on the basis of quality, originality, and relevance.

Active participation and/or endorsement from one or more IEEE SMC Technical Committees (TCs) is highly encouraged to strengthen the session’s relevance and visibility

Special Sessions are expected to align closely with the overall theme and scope of ICHMS 2026, fostering discussions that advance understanding and integration within human–machine systems. Each session should provide a focused exploration of novel, emerging, or rapidly developing research topics that contribute to the conference’s objectives. Additionally, Special Sessions should promote collaboration and active engagement among researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders from diverse disciplines.

The Special Session Chairs will assess all proposals according to the following key criteria:

  • Relevance and timeliness of the proposed topic,
  • Alignment and complementarity with the main themes of the conference,
  • Qualifications and experience of the session organizers.

Topics

Proposed Special Sessions must be closely aligned with the ICHMS 2026 theme, “Beyond Interaction: Integrating Humans, Machines, and Intelligent Autonomous Systems.” Each session should focus on emerging or cross-disciplinary areas that foster integration and collaboration among humans, machines, and intelligent autonomous systems.

In addition, Special Session topics should complement the regular conference tracks, ensuring strong relevance to the main themes of ICHMS, including (but not limited to):

  • Human-AI Collaboration and Decision Support
  • Trust, Transparency, and Ethical Governance in Human-Machine Systems
  • Human Factors, Ergonomics, and Performance in Intelligent Systems
  • Human-Robot Interaction and Collaborative Robotics
  • Digital Twins, Simulation, and Virtual Environments
  • Autonomous Systems: Control, Safety, and Multi-Agent Architectures
  • Applications in Healthcare, Smart Infrastructure, and Environments
  • Policy, Standards, and Societal Impact of Human-Machine Integration
