The BMI Workshop follows the dates of the main IEEE SMC 2026 conference. As in previous years, these dates may be subject to minor extensions, which will be updated here. Please note that the already distributed call for papers (CFP in PDF format) includes only the initial planned dates, so any changes will be reflected on this page. BMI Workshop Best Paper Awards
To recognize outstanding contributions, the BMI Workshop will present the following awards:
- Best Paper – one award of $500
- Best Student Paper – three awards of $250 each
To be eligible for the Best Student Paper awards, the student must be both the first author and the presenting author.
The awards will be presented at the workshop.
BMI Workshop Student Travel Awards
A limited number of student travel awards will be offered to support student participation in the IEEE SMC BMI Workshop 2026. We expect to offer four travel awards, each valued at $500.
How to Apply: To apply, applicants must submit a single PDF file containing:
- The completed Travel Award Application Form (maximum 1 page; available here in Word format), and
- The applicant’s full submitted workshop paper (maximum 6 pages).
The application form should be a maximum of one page in length and appear as the first page of the complete PDF file.
Submission: Please email your combined PDF (application form + full paper) to [email protected] by the deadline.
Eligibility: Applicants must be students at the time of application. Recipients must attend the workshop in person to receive a travel award. Only applicants with accepted papers will be considered.
Deadline: March 22, 2026Â
Notification of Award: May 10, 2026
Award Distribution: Travel awards will be distributed to the awardees after conference registration.

The Team of the BMI Workshop proudly announces the completion and launch of its new website on November 3, 2025, just several days after the official start of the main website for the IEEE SMC 2026 conference. Visitors can explore the new site at the URL https://www.ieesmc.org/bmi/ to receive information about the project and its supervisors while staying updated with the news. It is important to note that the new URL is hosted on the IEEE SMC Society’s website, https://www.ieeesmc.org/. This arrangement not only helps save costs but also ensures the sustainable use of the site.
