IEEE Telepresence Initiative
The IEEE Telepresence Initiative is a partnership between the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, and IEEE Future Directions. The Initiative covers the three SMCS tracks (systems, HMS, and cybernetics) and is supported by multiple SMCS and RAS Technical Committees.
Telepresence technologies enable a user’s remote presence at a different physical location to interact as if actually present. They have the potential to change how we live and work in society, increasing accessibility, reducing the environmental impact of commuting and travel, and augmenting human performance. Telepresence has wide-reaching applications in space and undersea exploration, search and rescue, healthcare, education and training, tourism, manufacturing, and entertainment. Our mission is to create a community for events and educational activities around the broad theme of telepresence.
