Panel 3: AI, Architecture and City

Abstract

When analyzing Artificial Intelligence, a phenomenon that is reshaping architecture and urban planning in ways we are only beginning to understand, several questions arise: To what extent do algorithms represent a new architectural paradigm, or are they simply another process in the increasing technologization of architectural projects? Are we merely witnessing a technology that intensifies the optimization of existing processes, or is it also a force that inaugurates new ways of conceiving and designing architecture? Is AI a technological platform that replaces, amplifies, or reforms existing ones? These questions, along with others of equal magnitude, permeate our disciplinary debates and demand that we reflect ambitiously on the immediate present of the discipline.

This panel proposes an introduction to AI as a contemporary paradigm and a critical evaluation of its relationship with architecture, including an approach from the perspective of ecosystemic urbanism.
