Editorial of Issue 60, July 2018, of the eNewsletter of the IEEE SMC Society

Dear Readers,

Prof. Mariagrazia Dotoli

This is the number two issue of the IEEE SMC Society eNewsletter for 2018.

The current e-Newsletter is packed with content on Society news: among many others, do not miss the Call for nominations of the Society Board of Governors and the Open call for nomination of the Editor in Chief of one of our society’s flagship publications, the IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems!

This second issue of 2018 also includes information on several new initiatives and appointments of the Society and the establishment of a new Technical Committee. The issue also features numerous calls for papers and calls for participation to events and activities of the Society. In particular, October 7-10 are the dates reserved for this year’s edition of our flagship conference to be held in Miyazaki (Japan), http://www.smc2018.org/ and focusing on the making of a human-centered cyber world. I look forward to seeing you all there! Please also note that the call for papers of next year’s conference is already available at http://smc2019.org/ and the theme is Industry 4.0. Next year edition will be held in Bari, Italy, and you are all welcome to participate! As usual, the eNewsletter also features numerous job openings and funding opportunities.

I would like to close my editorial by presenting our warmest congratulations to Dr. Dimitar Filev, our Junior Past President, who was just elected member of the United States National Academy of Engineering for contributions to automotive research and practice in the fields of intelligent information and control systems. Well done, Dimitar!

I look forward to receiving your contributions and making the eNewsletter the leading forum of our Society.

Send us your feedback!
