Ethics are a vital part of the value IEEE brings to the engineering world—and captured in the Symbiotic Autonomous Systems (SAS) Workshop at the 2018 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (IEEE SMC 2018) on October 7-10 in Miyazaki, Japan. The full-day workshop on Tuesday 9 October 2018—chaired by Raj Madhavan and Francesco Flammini—will cover technology, ethics, public policy, and societal enablers.
Centered on two themes—Enabling Technologies and Existing Gaps and Ethical, Legal, and Societal Considerations—the workshop discussion will encompass the implementations and implications of symbiotic autonomous systems. In addition to technical aspects, important factors such as socio-economic issues and public policy requirements need to be taken into consideration.
Topic areas include, but are not limited to:
- Applications of technologies that constitute the building blocks for a next generation of SAS
- Integration of new technology approaches paving the way for a new field of SSS
