Membership Development Meeting with IEEE China Office

On 24th Jan 2011, Loi-Lei Lai, VP of Membership & Student Activities of IEEE SMC Society, Wing Ng, BoG Member and GOLD Coordinator of IEEE SMC Society, and Patrick Chan, Student Activity Coordinator of IEEE SMC Society, have visited the IEEE China Office at Beijing. In the two-hour meeting with Ning Hua, Chief Representative of IEEE China Office and Director of IEEE China Operations, and Lan Wang, Project Manager of IEEE China Office, we discussed several aspects about membership development in China.

Region 10 has the largest membership growth in recent years. However, there are still many challenges to both IEEE and SMC Society in membership development in Region 10, especially in China. There are more than eight thousands current IEEE members, including SMC members, in China. In 2010, IEEE China Office organized English educational courses in China which was found to be beneficial to many student and graduate student members. IEEE China Office also provided leadership education to student branch officers in China. We will work with them to provide leadership education to our student branch chapter officers in China. Several concrete plans on joint promotion of IEEE and SMC membership have also been agreed.
