This workshop was hosted by IEEE SMC Hiroshima Chapter in Hiroshima, Japan from November 10th to November 12th, 2009. The general chair is Professor Hideki Katagiri from Hiroshima Univerity and assisted by the organizing committe. The members of the committee are following:
This is the second time that the workshop IWCIA has been held at Hiroshima University and we believe that it was a very exciting experience for all participants of the workshop.
Following the IWCIA2008 (held at Hiroshima University, Japan), the workshop was instituted based, with all the activities centered at Hiroshima University. The institute is located about 20 km east of downtown Hiroshima, with direct access by expressway bus. There is a number of hotels nearby the institute, and the institute also operates a guest house on the site. There are two world heritage in Hiroshima, Hiroshima Peace Memorial and Itsukushima Shinto Shrine. It takes about half an hour to travel from the institute to city center of Hiroshima, and it costs only 600JPY (about 6 USD). However, taxis are very expensive in Japan, so most of participants who visited to Hiroshima City takes the expresway bus or conventional train lines.
As usual, all the presentations at the workshop were held at general, student, or organized sessions. They were held by single or parallel sessions, This is made possible by the small size of the workshop and favors the exchange of ideas between researchers from various fields, who quite frequently face similar experimental problems. The fields covered are rather broad as following topics and associated fields:
3 General Sessions, 3 Student Sessions and 8 Organized Sessions were held at the workshop, and 65 papers were presented. The organizing committee voted for selecting a person receiving the best presentation award and a student receiving the best student presentation award. As the result, the following two papers were selected.
Title of paper: Borderline Over-sampling for Imbalanced Data Classificatio
Authors: Hien M. Nguyen, Eric W. Cooper, Katsuari Kamei
Title of paper: Self-Organized Similarity based Kernel Fuzzy Clustering Model and Its Applications
Authors: Tomoyuki Kuwata, Mika Sato-Ilic
Additionally, two keynote speakers were held at the workshop as follows:
We held fellowship banquet at 11th night. The number of participants were about 40.
