Our goals

Pattern recognition has become one of the fastest growing research areas in recent years. This is in part attributed to the pioneering work by the researchers in academe as well as the practitioners in industry. Making computers see and recognize objects like humans has captured the attention of many scientists in different disciplines. Indeed, machine recognition of different patterns such as human faces, irises, fingerprinting, printed and handwritten characters, biomedical images, etc. has been intensively and extensively researched by scientists in different countries around the world. The area of pattern recognition, after over five decades of continued development, is now definitely playing a very major role in advanced automation in the 21st century.

We establish the core ideas of pattern recognition from the viewpoints of systems, man, and cybernetics by focusing on both the theoretical achievements and practical applications of pattern recognition. The goal of this technical committee is to provide a forum for exchanging ideas among researchers in pattern recognition, such as to organize the SMC co-sponsored conferences, workshops and publications. It also establishes a bridge to connect the new theoretical results of research of pattern recognition and real applications.

What we are doing

  • Promote research and academic-industry cooperation in pattern recognition and related fields.
  • Establish special interest group in pattern recognition and related fields.
  • Encourage IEEE members participate research in pattern recognition and related fields.
  • Organize special sessions in IEEE/SMC conferences.
  • Co-organize SMC Technical sponsored conferences.

Why don't you join us?

  • to interact with scientists and engineers in pattern recognition, to give deep understanding of human cognition from the viewpoint of pattern recognition.
  • to participate in interesting conferences and workshops to exchange research ideas and results with scientists and engineers in the world.
  • to promote area of pattern recognition for applications, and to give special opportunities for researchers on pattern recognition and other areas to exchange their ideas.
  • to make friends from different regions of the world.
