Our goals

In recent years, we have seen numerous breakthroughs in multimedia, video-on-demand (VoD), machine intelligence, interactive media systems, computing, networks, and communications. Computing systems and communications networks are now extensively used in media production and transmission. In a very real sense, computing for the masses is largely related to media production. We are confronted with new problems in the man-system relationship. However, due to the lack of an integrated, central forum for researchers, engineers, and industry, media systems have yet shown their promise of human-centeredness which requires considerable efforts to make them more intelligent and adaptive. Technical Committee on Media Computing (TCMC) offers a central forum for researchers, engineers, media professionals and user groups to exchange ideas, investigate man-system relationship in media-rich environments, explore new approaches that make effective use of media technology, and work together to develop media systems that serve the user better.

What we are doing

  • Co-organized the 2005 Asia Pacific Workshop on Visual Information Processing (VIP05).
  • Planning the 2006 International Symposium on Media Comuting (ISMC) in conjunction with ICMLC2006 in Dalian, China.
  • Planning Special/Invited Sessions at SMC-2006.
  • Planning a Special Issue for IEEE Trans. on SMC in 2007.
  • An International Workshop on Media Computing in late 2007.
  • A Lecture Notes in Computer Science on Media Computing and New Media in 2007, which will consist of invited contributions from leading experts in the general area of new media.

Why don't you join us?

We welcome researchers, engineers and media professionals to join us in our effort to bridge the huge gap between digital technology and media contents. With the accumulative body of knowledge and substantial development in cybernetics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and systems theory over the last five decades, working together we will make media more engaging.
