The Technical Committee on Human Computer Interaction

Yan Xiao reports that the Technical Committee on Human Computer Interaction is concerned with issues related to modeling, designing, and evaluating interactions between humans and computing systems. Members of the TC can expect opportunities to continue professional and personal development through

1. Networking opportunities with peers and experts in the field

2. The design and development of the SMC's annual conference program

3. The development of special issues of the Transactions on Human-Machine Systems

4. Participation in interesting conferences and workshops

5. The exchange of research ideas and the sharing of research resources

6. Opportunities for making friends from different regions of the world

Currently the TC has 46 members from all parts of the world. Many of them are well-established and respected leaders in the field of human-computing systems, and have served in SMC in various capacities all the way back to the beginning of SMC. The TC's goals for the next five years include

1. Planning and organize special sessions for each annual SMC International Conference

2. Soliciting and reviewing high-quality papers for IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems

3. Serving as Associate editors for IEEE Transactions on Human Machine Systems in the area of Human-Machine Systems.

4. Appointing Human-Machine Systems Distinguished Lecturers

5. Organizing IEEE SMC cosponsored conferences and workshops

6. Encouraging student participation by supporting the student-focused IEEE SMC co-sponsored conference called the Systems and Information Engineering Design Symposium

7. Preparing technical papers for submission to the IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems

8. Reviewing articles submitted to IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems
