Editorial of Issue 64, September 2019, of the eNewsletter of the IEEE SMC Society

Dear Readers,

This is the number three issue of the IEEE SMC Society eNewsletter of 2019.

Regretfully, the eNewsletter is opened with the sad news that our great colleague and friend, IEEE life fellow, former IEEE Canada President fellow SMCS Board of Governors Member, EiC of our SMC Magazine and past EiC of our eNewsletter, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Hawary (Mo for everybody) passed away on July 26th 2019. To honor his memory, we publish a tribute to Mo, remembering his great volunteering work, and publish again an interview to him that was published on the eNewsletter issue number 53, which is still very relevant for the Society.

This issue includes also many news on the Society, including the BR41N.IO Brain-Computer Interface Designers’ Hackathon at IEEE SMC 2019 and the recording of the webinar “Successful Mentoring for Graduate Students”, which took place on September 23, 2019.

This third issue of 2019 also features numerous calls for papers and calls for participation to events and activities of the Society. In particular, October 6-9 are the dates reserved for this year’s edition of our flagship conference to be held in Bari (Italy), http://smc2019.org/ and focusing on Industry 4.0. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Please also note that the call for papers of next year’s conference is already available at http://smc2020.org/ and the theme is The Making of a Human-Centered Cyber World. Next year edition will be held in Toronto, Canada, and you are all welcome to participate!

Finally, the eNewsletter features a listing of several upcoming SMC events and reports numerous job openings and funding opportunities.

I look forward to receiving your contributions to the eNewsletter.

Send us your feedback!
