Conference

This
years IEEE Information Reuse and Integration Conference
(IRI) was a resounding success. The conference featured
Prof. Lotfi Zadeh (Berkeley) who presented the keynote address
on the topic of computing with words and perceptions. The
conference was held in the Luxor hotel in the heart of Las
Vegas. It featured almost one hundred presentations from
33 countries that ran the gamut from reuse in the design
of hardware to component-based reuse in the design of software
to reuse in multimedia. It served to give researchers in
these diverse fields a common thread and language for borrowing
from one another's work. The conference featured Waleed
Smari as program chair and Shu-Ching Chen and Stuart Rubin
as general chairs. Stuart presented the founders speech
for the conference, which is now in its fourth year since
inception and first year as an IEEE-sponsored event. The
IRI conference will be held again next year in the Luxor
Hotel in Las Vegas, Nov. 1-3, 2004 and will add parallel
sessions and tutorials concomitant with growth. Scientific
papers pertaining to all aspects of reuse and integration
are invited.
