- Call for Nominations for SMC’s Board of Governors-

Each year, five members of the SMC Society are elected to the Board of Governors (BoG) for 3-year terms. The Board of Governors shall represent the members of the Society and approve the Society’s annual budget, amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws, elect society officers, and authorize the expenditure of Society funds. Members of the Board of Governors are expected to attend SMC’s annual meeting each October where the BoG meeting is held.

SMC is always searching for ways for members to become more involved with the governance of the Society, especially given that 72% of our members are now located outside North America. Therefore, the SMC Society’s Nomination Committee is inviting SMC members, especially overseas members, to make suitable nominations for SMC’s 2004 Board of Governors elections.

From these and other nominations, SMC Society’s Nomination Committee will select 7 to 10 members to be SMC’s candidates for this election, held at the end of 2004.

From the 7 to 10 candidates, five SMC members will be elected by the SMC members-at-large for 3-year terms (1/1/2005-12/31/2007) on the Society’s BoG.

If you wish to nominate any suitable nominees for this position, please email to m.h.smith@ieee.org by September 1, 2004 the following information:

  • The nominee’s full name and contact information (including email address).
  • The nominee’s contributions to the profession.
  • The nominee’s contributions to the SMCS and the IEEE.
  • Why you believe your nominee should be elected to the BoG and how the nominee can contribute to SMC if elected.

The SMC Nomination Committee will contact each nominee and request:

  • IEEE member number.
  • A statement by the candidate that the nominee is and will continue to be a member in good standing of IEEE and the SMC Society for the next three years.
  • A statement by the candidate that the nominee is willing to serve in this position for three years and is available for suitable duties and responsibilities as a BoG member.
  • A statement by the candidate that he/she will attend the annual BoG meeting each year at own expense. (The BoG meeting is normally held the day before sessions start at SMC’s annual conference in October.) A BoG member is usually expected to submit and present a paper at the annual conference as part of their professional involvement with SMC.
  • A statement by the candidate as to why the nominee should be elected to the BoG and how the nominee can contribute to SMC if elected.
  • Any other relevant biographical information.

Sincerely,
Dr. Michael H. Smith
