Pioneering neural implant work at the
University of Reading, UK
The Cybernetics Intelligence Research Group (CIRG) at the University of Reading, UK, is made up of seven full-time academics plus various research assistants and PhD students. We broadly define cybernetic intelligence as the study of intelligence and its applications. Members of CIRG are internationally active in the following areas: embodied machine intelligence , neural networks , intelligent search , intelligent control, applied cognitive systems , neuroscience, and neural implant technology.

Script Visualization (ScriptViz): a smart system
that makes writing fun

We have built the first version of ScriptViz v.1.0 that allows users to visualize their screenplays in real time via animated graphics. Our system consists of a text understanding module, a high-level planning module and a scene generator. The user can input a screenplay as a set of well-formed English sentences via a graphic user interface.

Report on IEEE SMC 2004

Enjoying drinks and having fun during the reception
With almost 1100 papers in the proceedings, and over 1100 registrations, The IEEE SMC2004 International conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics exceeded expectations. Participation was truly international, with strong representations of Asia, Europe and North America. The largest numbers of registrations were from mainland China (222), Japan (191), The Netherlands (134), USA (95), Taiwan (68), France( 59) and the UK (55). About 770 registrants actually participated in the meeting which was held in the Netherlands Congress Centre in The Hague, Netherlands, Oct. 10-13. Read more...
